About Taekwondo

About Taekwondo ..

The real meaning of Taekwondo is ‘the right way of using all parts of the body to stop fights and help to build a better and more peaceful world.’

Taekwondo is a Korean Martial Art and a regular Olympics’ Sport. The only other martial art enjoying this facility is Judo but the only problem in doing Judo is the requirement of the constant presence of the Judo Mat where as normal Taekwondo practice can be done anywhere. For competitive Taekwondo only, one must make it a practice to learn on a Taekwondo Mat with the prescribed protective gear. Taekwondo is part of the competitive games in the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, SAF Games apart from the regular World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) Championships. In India it is present in the National Games, East Zone Games, School Games, University Games and Netaji Subhas State Games. Schools like Navodaya and KVS have their own Inter-school Championships. In the PYKKA (Panchayat Yuba Krida & Khel Abhiyan) set up by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports it is a Group 1 sport. It has been even a part of the CBSE syllabus.

Taekwondoists get jobs under the sports quota in Income Tax Department as well as admission in various Universities under the Sports quota. Taekwondo Teams are present in Air Force Sports Control Board, General Reserve Police Force CISF, CRPF and Services Sports Control Board (including the State Police) – all under the Government of India and these Teams compete in the National Championship apart from 31 States and Union Territories of India. In Bengal this sport took roots in approximately 1975. Now, quite a few educational institutions in the Western World actually do keep only this form of martial art as part and parcel of their normal school curriculum. In Nepal too it is part of
normal schooling process.

BENEFITS OF LEARNING TAEKWONDO

This is to inform you about the necessity and benefits of imparting training in the Olympic Sport of Taekwondo in your esteemed College/School/Units as a mandatory subject. This will bring up the future generation with higher concentration powers resulting in better educational results, higher physical abilities including better endurance levels, stretching of the body, physique and quick, positive reflex
actions. The outcome will be exemplary results in all Sports, since basic physical and mental training is the basis for any Sport or academics and Taekwondo training is the Basics like A B C D to learn English. Taekwondo does not interfere in the normal physical growth process of a developing child (making a child muscular etc.). It makes the child self-disciplined with a highly developed power of concentration
while teaching them to use even a negative emotion like ‘fear’ positively.

Practicing Taekwondo, three times a week, makes young students automatically fit for doing far better than other kids in the field of any sport they are introduced to ensuring that the school teams start doing well in all sports. It is a much better substitute for the normal P.T. (Physical Training) periods in schools. The concentration power is enhanced to a very high degree resulting in better grasping and retention powers of the brain. The students are taught to manage and conduct classes as a part of their training while learning Teakwondo. They learn the importance of being Teachers and are more respectful to Authority and overall more responsible too. It can be a means of earning pocket money apart from keeping them fit while having the advantage of knowing self-defense.

TAEKWONDO FOR A SAFE SOCIETY

The responsibility to ensure a safe society lies with each individual and not with law-keepers alone. They too have limitations and cannot be everywhere at all times. Taekwondo instills confidence and teaches to use momentary nervousness positively combining it with the physical reflexes to differentiate and execute defensive or offensive actions as the situation demands. If entire generations are kept prepared with Taekwondo training, in times of danger to the country’s freedom, freedom-fighters for the war-front will be readily available from within the Taekwondo trained civilians.

TAEKWONDO FOR THE GIRL CHILD

We strongly endorse making Taekwondo mandatory especially in Girls’ Schools. For the girl child, this is very important in the world of today. Girls are working hard to be financially independent for which they have to commute at times even at odd hours alone. Incidentally, Taekwondoists generally, do not resort to physical violence easily since their endurance levels are far higher than other normal children.
This results in their not panicking in an adverse situation and executing the necessary actions with a calm, cool mindset. Since this is a sport related more to building up endurance level, flexibility, concentration, reflex action and no muscle pumping, the students generally stay very slim ( unless and until they are the over-eating types).

Taekwondo specially trains them to handle adverse advances etc. in a way that if they ever get into an unfortunate situation, if required, their muscle memory takes charge of the body to defend their own selves as well as others around them.
