About Us
Bengal Taekwondo Association
Bengal Taekwondo Association is the only Bengal Olympic Association affiliated Taekwondo (from 1988 onwards) body in the State of West Bengal. We have affiliation with the Taekwondo Federation of India (T.F.I.), whose, President, is Mr. Ishwari Ganesh. We are recognized by the West Bengal State
Council of Sports as being the only official body in this particular sport in West Bengal.
Our parent body, Taekwondo Federation of India, is certified by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports as having its registered office at Lucknow, registered/incorporated vide No.1695/82-83 dated 15/09/1982 under the Societies Registration Act 1860 and has been recognized as a National Sports Federation for the discipline of Taekwondo. (You may check out the certification with the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports or the website of the Taekwondo Federation of India). The Indian Olympic Association also recognizes only the Taekwondo Federation of India.
CONTEMPORARY ISSUES
We have a few thousand children mainly from the economically weaker sections of society. There are many private tutors of Taekwondo in Bengal who have ‘unethical-business-like approach who’ make their students participate in private championships calling them state, national and even international. They do not care whether their students are learning the pure form of the game or ‘just a ‘kichdi’ to basically have foolhardy fun which can result in dangerous repercussions’. This is the kind of attitude which prevents West Bengal from doing well in Taekwondo and India at large to get medals in Asian Games or Olympics etc.
For your kind information, martial arts are very necessary to be practiced in extreme purity since the ‘Kichdi’ that is served as martial arts can at times be lethal especially for a growing child.
If you were to employ a Chartered Accountant, you need his Institute of Chartered Accountants Number(a Government of India recognized body). A Medical Practitioner too has to be a member of the MedicalCouncil of India with a registration no. (again a Government of India recognized body) then why do you not check the registration numbers of these, so called, martial arts’ experts with Government affiliated /recognized bodies. Even some of the well-known schools of Kolkata are not concerned whether these coaches have the up to date certifications themselves from the G.O.I. recognized bodies. The schools too are taking a big chance by employing such persons who have, in Bengal, no Bengal Taekwondo Association’s annual certifications. The annual certifications have become necessary now, since some technical persons initially took introductory letter from the Bengal Taekwondo Association and later switched to private practice and attached themselves to the ‘Kichdi’ bodies. Someday, it may backfire and quite a few times, it already has backfired creating major problems, the price of which is paid by the young players.
TAEKWONDO IN YOUR SCHOOL/UNIT/BUILDING COMPLEX
In opting for this Sport kindly keep in mind that this has to be taught by duly certified Instructors. Bengal Taekwondo Association (under the aegis of the Taekwondo Federation of
India) certifies them on an annual basis after their undergoing the due up-gradation process. This is imperative to maintain the purity of the Sport and to ensure that unauthorized persons, pretending to be Taekwondo experts having no Certifications from Government of India recognized Bodies do not start a racket of profiteering at the expense of an innocent child where the physical body itself is being transformed into a semi-weapon. An unauthorized person claiming to be a
Taekwondo Expert can do more harm than good to a growing child therefore please deal with Sports Bodies recognized by the Bengal Olympic Association and West Bengal State Council of Sports as well as the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
HOW THE AFFILIATION SYSTEM WORKS
The Colleges/Schools/Units can get affiliation with their respective District bodies. This allows the School/Unit to have a role in the proper running of the District body. This also ensures that the unit gets all information related to any Events in this Sport, held anywhere under the Government recognized Championships along with voting powers. Any College/School within the jurisdiction of Kolkata municipality can get affiliation with the Kolkata Taekwondo Association (an affiliate of Bengal Taekwondo Association) for a nominal amount of onetime enrolment fee and thereafter an annual renewal fee.as per T.F.I. norms, provided it has applied for a minimum of 25 students. Identity cards may be issued to each practitioner on payment of a prescribed fee (strictly as per the guidelines of Bengal Taekwondo Association under the norms of the Taekwondo Federation of India.
